PC Too Slow
Idea 1 - Your PC may be too slow because of errors in the
registry

The registry is similar to the nervous system of the computer and its function is to connect software hardware
and computer files. Over time, errors occur and this slows down computers, frequently their registry become
corrupted. A simple step is therefore to locate then fix registry errors. Despite the fact that it is possible to
repair the registry manually in theory, this method is not recommended. The main reason for this, is that it
requires strong knowledge of the structure of the registry as well as its functions. Registry cleaner software
are a faster, more reliable alternative to remove errors, unused file, poor links and deal
with ActiveX components.
Idea 2 - Your PC may be too slow due to adware and spyware
Another common reason leading to computers slowing-down, is the large number of spyware and adware, which are
downloaded from the Internet, often without the users knowledge. Often, this takes place when peer to peer (P2P)
networks are used to download videos and music for example. An easy solution to improve the response time of any
computer is to run an anti spyware or adware program which will scan, remove then block adware and spyware. Most
anti spyware or adware software have a free trial version and it is worth using this first to try out the program.
The main features to consider are Ease of Download and Simplicity of Use, Automatic Backup, Quality of Customer
Service, and the overall effectiveness of the software. The best software tend to be the simplest to use and rely
on a research capability that constantly updates the software for new threats.
Idea 3 - Viruses may cause your PC to be too slow
Unsurprisingly many computer viruses can slow down computers and drive down response times. Computer
viruses often damage files, can consume excessive amount of memory and take a large amount of space on
the hard disk. Running the latest version of the best anti-virus programs will fix many of the problems
which are detrimental to computer performance.

Idea 4 - Your PC may be too slow if you have not done some simple housekeeping tasks
There are many simple housekeeping tasks which can be done to improve the speed of any
computer, for example uninstalling any software that is not needed. Another simple step to
improve computer speed is to stop programs launching automatically. Marginal improvements
usually result from these simple tasks.
Idea 5 - Your PC may be too slow if if your Hard disk is too small
For hard disks which are smaller than 2GB then at least 200MB of disk should be kept free and at least 500MB for
larger hard disks. Computer speed also depend on the free space on the hard disk, as temporary files are placed
there by computer software. This is also used for swapping files when the operating system needs to use virtual
memory as it runs out of RAM. In that event, unless sufficient space is free on the hard disk, the
system slows down significantly. To check the hard disk itself it is recommended to use a disk
scanning programs such as Scandisk for Windows. For instance the hard disk may be too fragmented and some of
its sectors may be damaged, and this can create problems even if the hard drive is large enough. Running a
defragmentation program is another step that can be completed to improve the speed of any
computer.
Idea 6 - Your PC may be too slow if your RAM is insufficient
Some programs are poorly designed and do not release RAM resources after they are closed. This
adversely impacts the RAM available for other programs. Running out of RAM too fast is not uncommon and users
who have this problem should consider upgrading the memory on their computer. An alternative free option is simply
to not run some computer programs at the same time as each other.
Idea 7 - Overheating
Faulty fans are a common cause leading to the computer overheating, slowing down then freezing as a result.
To overcome this problem, installing a new fan is the best solution which will reduce the computer's temperature by
increasing the airflow and ultimately improve response time.
