Avoid
Freeware. Undoubtedly, downloading songs, movies, and other files
for free is tempting and may feel like a bargain at the
time. In reality though, you may be getting more than you
bargained for when you use freeware or peer to peer
software. Often when downloading these programs you may
also be installing adware on your computer
unknowingly. Being careful will work to your advantage in
the long run and this should involve downloading freeware
from trusted sources only if you cannot do without them
or better avoiding freeware all together.

Ignore Pop Ups - Another easy way to block adware and spyware
is to completely avoid pop ups altogether. Like many, you
may have come across popup ads, clicked on them and
unknowingly have accidentally opened up your computer to
spyware and adware threats. Popup blocker software are
useful in this context, and the good news is, that some
of them are even free like those in the MSN and Google toolbar which will keep
popups at bay whilst you browse. The downside of these
free programs however, is that they do not deal with any
adware or spyware already installed on your computer, and
that they create a false sense of security for many
users.

exposed your computer to adware or spyware. Well the
answer may surprise you: Often, seemingly minor day

you may be browsing a site and coming across a dialogue
box that says you need to install a program? You may
be tempted to just click "OK" or "YES" without a
second thought and unknowingly install adware or spyware
programs as a result. It is a sad fact of the internet
today that some programs or files cannot be downloaded
unless adware and spyware end up on your hard disk as
well. We hope that the next time you think of your
options on how to block adware and spyware you will
consciously avoid any suspicious downloads. Do not
download programs unless you understand their purpose. Be
particularly cautious when you are visiting unfamiliar
sites and are instructed to download
